Abstract
Cox and Sisk’s conclusion presents the principal avenues for future research and enduring recommendations for peacebuilders seeking to promote social cohesion in deeply divided societies. The conclusion focuses on the role of global norms (e.g., religious tolerance and freedom of belief and the rights of minorities and indigenous peoples), inclusion and power sharing in transitional contexts, authentic inclusivity in the state, complementarity among direct and indirect approaches to fostering a sense of living together, public policy strategies to promote interdependency, and ways of assessing the potential, and of avoiding doing harm in social cohesion programming.
