Book cover Tuberculosis of the Central Nervous System

Abstract

The developing countries like India are faced with common health issues like the infectious disease of tuberculosis (TB), caused by bacilli of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The peripheral nervous system involvement by M. tuberculosis is rare and full of controversies. Many possibilities have been suggested without any definite single causative factor. Causes of peripheral neuropathy (PN) in TB infection include the side effects caused by potent anti-TB drugs (mainly, streptomycin, rifampicin, and ethambutol), immune-mediated PN, vasculitis-related PN, sarcoidosis, leprosy-related neuropathy, compressive neuropathy, and meningitis-related radiculopathy. The causative link of TB infection with PN is rare with few reported cases, of which one is my own study.
