Abstract

This chapter draws on a three-year project with youth in Nepal to examine the role of participatory action research, particularly its focus on knowledge production through democratic dialogue and participation, in shifting consciousness and habits embedded in neoliberal understandings of development. The chapter is broken down into two main parts: (1) a nuanced description of participatory action research in the context of Nepal and based on the project with Nepali youth, and (2) gleanings on how both process and outcome challenged pervasive neoliberal development practices and ideologies.
