Abstract
The authors’ believe in the lack of effectiveness of numerical simulation in modeling production from shale does not stem from a purely theoretical point of view. We have been intimately involved in such activities for years and have learned that when it comes to using numerical reservoir simulation to model production from shale wells, regardless of how detail and meticulous the approach, the results leave much to be desired and have little to do with the realities on the ground.

Notes
- 1.
This method primarily relies on the geometry and distribution of fractures in each cell to build permeability tensor. It uses a statistical method based on the number and sizes of the fractures in each cell. It is fast but does not take into account the connectivity of fractures and can therefore underestimate fracture permeability when the intensity is low.
