Abstract
Hypnosis can be used in a variety of ways with the paediatric patient and for a range of presenting complaints [1]. This chapter aims to discuss its use in children with dental anxiety, including needle phobia. Strategies for tackling gagging are also included, as anxiety is often the underlying aetiology. Hypnosis is, however, also useful in bruxism and in breaking habits such as digit sucking. It can also enhance the efficacy of various treatment interventions including cognitive behavioural therapy and inhalation sedation [2, 3].
