Abstract

Insufficient site protection, lack of building maintenance, and advanced instability of the painted plasters were identified as the main conservation issues in the survey report commissioned by the World Monuments Fund (WMF), New York, in 2010. Following this call for urgent intervention, a two-month campaign was set up in summer 2013 funded by the Municipality of Famagusta, the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore and the WMF, during which a more detailed condition survey, the emergency stabilization of severely detached plasters, and the first cleaning trials on the painted surfaces began. This continued during the second working campaign in June–July 2014.
