Open Abdomen

Abstract

The open abdomen, or laparotomy, has become an accepted, standard concept in contemporary surgical practice [1–6]. However, its indication for use remains heterogeneous, and the subtleties around its practical management remain equally diverse. These varying indications, in combination with stark management differences, continue to pose challenges in modern practice and complicate direct comparison of outcomes.
