Abstract
Amidst the breakdown of the postwar geopolitical order in the Middle East and Africa, it is often presumed that the future for the ‘Far East’ is rosier. India and China are widely believed to be destined to become the economic powerhouses of the future, and the locus of a global economic shift to the East.
