Abstract
Memory has been recognized, since perhaps the beginning, as a key component of human development and civilization. Simply put, without memory we don’t exist. For millennia, humans have tried to permanently store information by any means–from carvings in stone to ink markings or to the chemical processing of a variety of thin media–and with various results, depending on time, power and cost.
