Abstract

HBO has been shown to be a valuable adjunct to the medical and surgical treatment of various infections. Host defense mechanisms against infection are impaired by hypoxia and oxygen has an adjunct effect with antibiotics particularly in anaerobic infections such as gas gangrene. HBO plays an important role in the treatment of other soft tissue infections and osteomyelitis.
