Abstract
This chapter presents case research on the design of a patient pathway for a chronic condition Huntington’s disease (HD). The case draws on the design of two different services delivered in the UK. From interviewing healthcare professionals, patients and relatives, the qualitative analysis provides a detailed review of existing services. We provide a high-level map of HD pathway which includes details of patient, information and emotional flows. We introduce the theme of brokering and how this fits with the role of the patient, relatives and healthcare professional. We identify how lean and agile influence or might improve the design of the pathway being studied. We propose how the use of decoupling might improve the performance of the pathway including front-office and back-office activities.
