Abstract
Acute neurologic injury requires specialized care and complete understanding of the hemodynamic goals for treatment as well as consideration for the systemic effects of neurologic injury. Specialized neurologic intensive care units provide a multidisciplinary approach to specific conditions by teams dedicated to treating neurologic illness. Various continuous and intermittent monitors for hemodynamic stability, volume status, cerebral profusion, and cerebral oxygenation are described in a case-based discussion throughout this chapter to demonstrate the diagnostic and treatment requirements for the complex pathophysiology of acute neurologic injury.
