Mindfulness Applications in Education

Abstract

Attention is indispensable to school performance and daily life. However, almost 50% of the time we are awake, our mind is wandering. We are not 100% focused on what we are doing in each moment. This chapter focuses on translational work of mindfulness meditation in cognitive and learning ability, as well as in education outcomes. I will take several core cognitive capacities, including attention, conflict resolution, creativity, school test scores, and learning ability, as examples to demonstrate how mindfulness affects each of these domains and its applications in education.
