Fundamentals of Ethnic Hair

Abstract

Pseudofolliculitis barbae and acne keloidalis nuchae are chronic inflammatory conditions commonly affecting men of African descent. These conditions are related to the penetration of tightly curled hairs into the surrounding skin. Education on proper grooming techniques and early intervention is essential to halting the progression of these diseases. Permanent hair removal modalities may be required to improve long-standing and severe disease.
