Abstract
I got to my outpost in Afghanistan in January 2011. It was so remote it took us about three weeks of traveling to get to where we needed to be. My unit, the 1–16th infantry, was chosen to do a trial deployment where we worked and lived with Special Forces. We were out in the middle of nowhere. We didn’t have running water so our bathrooms were Port-a-Potties. Our showers were bottles of water.
