Abstract

In this proposal the study of the efficiency of spur gears with shifting and profile modifications under various operating conditions is presented. To calculate the efficiency, the effect of the sliding friction upon teeth contact was taken into account given its status as the most important effect during the operating conditions tested. For friction calculation, a Coulomb model was performed, whose coefficient of friction was obtained from the Niemann formulation. This formulation of constant friction coefficient allows one to isolate the effect of the load sharing upon the efficiency, with respect to the relative coefficient of friction. The objective of this proposal is to analyse the effect of shifting, profile modifications and torque on the load sharing, as well as the influence of the latter on efficiency.
