Abstract
Bariatric surgery is increasingly applied to the adolescents with the dramatic increase in obesity in this population. While there are technical similarities to the adult procedures, there are special considerations needed for application to pediatric patients. The interventions most commonly utilized are the gastric bypass and the sleeve gastrectomy. This chapter will review the physiologic, metabolic, and technical point relevant to successful surgical management of the adolescent with obesity. Surgical management of obesity has demonstrated excellent outcomes with improvement in comorbidities.
