Abstract
Light- and laser-based therapies are valuable and safe therapeutic options in the pediatric population. Laser (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) by definition delivers coherent monochromatic light to a concentrated area of tissue. Light therapy, on the other hand, employs a variety of lights and mechanisms. This chapter will focus on available light-based therapies used for the management of common and recalcitrant pediatric dermatologic conditions. This includes light-emitting diodes, intense pulsed light, photodynamic therapy, ultraviolet phototherapy and extracorporeal photopheresis.
