Abstract

Iatrogenic bladder outlet obstruction is more common than one may believe. The diagnosis can be rather elusive; however, one must keep a heightened sense of awareness for this condition after patients have undergone sling or any other form of outlet obstructive procedure. Typical symptoms of bladder outlet obstruction are hesitancy and weak or diminished stream; however more often patients present with irritative complaints such as urgency or frequency. Especially important is the temporal relationship of the de novo symptoms to the sling procedure as this may indicate that the problem is the sling.
