Abstract

A 33-year-old female, with no past medical history, presents with nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting at 37 weeks’ gestation. Clinically she looks unwell and is possibly jaundiced. Laboratory investigations show bilirubin 69 umol/L, AST 1345 iu, INR 1.8, blood glucose 2.9 mmol/L, WCC 17, platelets 78 and Hb 10.1. Whilst you are reviewing the blood results, she becomes agitated and her blood pressure falls to 60 systolic.
