Abstract

The maxillary sinus is a key structure of the midface and plays an important role in dentistry. The complexity of the sinus cavity and the proximity of the floor of the maxillary sinus to the root apices of the posterior teeth are a challenge in diagnosis as well as in therapy. Dislocation of dental materials, root fragments, or implants into the maxillary sinus must be avoided under all circumstances. The presence of sinus recesses and sinus septa must be considered in the constantly expanding field of implant dentistry, particularly in conjunction with sinus floor elevation procedures.
