Posterior Mandible

Abstract

The posterior mandible includes the posterior part of the mandibular body, the ramus, and the angle of the mandible. On the lingual aspect, the posterior mandible often presents a distinct undercut, i.e., the submandibular fossa. The latter must be considered when performing osteotomies to avoid perforation to the floor of the mouth. The posterior mandible may serve as a donor site for autogenous bone grafts.
