Abstract

The Asia Pacific region has experienced a number of overwhelming natural disasters in the recent decade that challenged the health systems of both small and big countries. During these events, nurses have shown dedication, courage, expertise, and compassion in helping save lives and supporting communities to build back better. This book presents ten case studies highlighting the role of nurses in disaster management from disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and rehabilitation—from health assessments, basic emergency care, primary health-care services, health education, and risk communication to monitoring of diseases of potential outbreak. It emphasizes the need for nurses’ leadership, critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork in disaster situations.
