Abstract

Metals to form the Macraes deposit were derived from the host schists during prograde metamorphism. The metal-bearing metamorphogenic fluid was generated during dehydration of metasediments in the prograde transition from upper greenschist facies to amphibolite facies, at the same time as the Hyde-Macraes Shear Zone was forming retrogressively at shallower levels. Similar processes are occurring in some modern collisional orogens, including the Southern Alps mountains to the north of the Macraes deposit.
