Abstract

The various surgical approaches to the cerebral arteries are extensively presented in this chapter. The anatomical description, the clinical and surgical relevance are particularly underscored and richly illustrated. In the general framework of the superior aortic system, the cerebral arteries may represent either donor or target vessels requiring a particular attention in both circumstances, as numerous surgical, endovascular or combined procedures ask for a thorough knowledge of the complex anatomical regions at cervical and cranial level. The currently deployed surgical exposures are presented serving as a useful guide for surgeons, interventionalists and neurologists. Not least, particular, less-used or even unparalleled approaches are additionally described. The indications, limits and possible complications of each approach, readily emerge.
