Abstract
Cardiovascular disorders are the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the industrialized world. In the United States alone more than 14 million people have some form of coronary artery disease (CAD) or its complications, including congestive heart failure (CHF), angina, and arrhythmias. Many will undergo medical and surgical procedures to address their CAD, and hundreds of thousands are candidates for cardiac rehabilitation. This chapter introduces coronary anatomy, terminology, and common cardiac conditions. Common medical treatments for cardiac problems are delineated.
