Abstract
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), affect approximately 1.6 million Americans and as many as 70,000 new cases are diagnosed every year. Living with these chronic diseases presents unique challenges to patients, their families, and health care providers. IBD also has a substantial financial impact on both patients individually and the national economy in general. This chapter explores some of these issues and the resources available.
