Abstract
In this concluding chapter, Hovil draws together the findings of a series of case studies that examine the ongoing realities of conflict and forced migration in the Great Lakes region and their linkages to a broader crisis of citizenship and belonging. It draws on the stories of hundreds of individuals who have become marginalised through displacement and are seeking a way out of this marginalisation in multiple ways. Common throughout is the fact that regardless of the means, they want to achieve the same goal—an end to their marginalisation. Hovil then goes on to show how the findings have application beyond the Great Lakes region, to any situation in which migrants, forced or otherwise, are searching for belonging.
