Abstract
Psychogenic pruritus can be defined as “an itch disorder where itch is at the centre of the symptomatology and where psychological factors play an evident role in the triggering, intensity, aggravation or persistence of the pruritus”. Although psychogenic factors frequently aggravate itch, the pure psychogenic pruritus is rare. It is very important to have positive diagnostic criteria and to not confound idiopathic and psychogenic pruritus. The DSM5 classification proposes to include it among the “somatic symptom disorders”. Treatment can be performed with the help of psychotropes and/or psychological intervention.
