Abstract

Disorders of sex development (DSDs) often lead to infertility or sterility as a result of abnormal gonadal development or prophylactic gonadectomy; yet fertility preservation techniques have rarely been considered for these patients. Infertility or sterility is not only a risk but a complicated decisional issue for parents of individuals with DSDs, who may make decisions before a child is mature enough to participate in that process. The best timing of fertility preservation, potential for germ cell or gonadal tissue cryopreservation, and attitudes toward fertility preservation among those with DSDs and their family members are emerging areas of research and require further study.
