Abstract

The chapter gives a broad overview of the discovery of all 3211 isotopes identified until the end of 2015. The timeline for the discoveries of different regions of the chart of nuclides as well as different production mechanisms is presented. A brief outlook is given for the potential of future discoveries. Finally, a table listing of all presently known isotopes shows for each isotope the first author, the literature reference, the laboratory, country and year of discovery as well as a reference where the isotopes are discussed in more detail in the book.
