Statistical Description of Turbulence

Abstract

A turbulent flow is a chaotic and fluctuating flow state, and for most applications we are not interested in all the details of the flow. It thus seems obvious to focus our attention on statistical quantities, such as the average and the standard deviation of fluctuating flow variables.
