Abstract
This chapter is intended as one part of a full chronological sequence, wherein each chapter concentrates on one definable time period of landscape evolution as illustrated in the Mariana Islands. This particular chapter considers the archaeological and other lines of evidence of the period of A.D. 1000–1700 in terms of the known site inventory and dating, landforms, resource zones, material culture, and regional context. Based on the total chronological sequence, later chapters will consider the overall findings about an integrated natural–cultural history of landscape evolution.
