Abstract

The standard set by pragmatism is not one of subjective willfulness. Whether our methods are successful and functionally effective is not something that lies in the eyes of the beholder. Rather, the pragmatic standard provides for realism—a thought-independent control over the adequacy of our cognitive proceedings.
