Abstract
In this chapter we analyze the data on the roles and relationships of the perpetrators of abuse and neglect in the lives of children with disabilities. We examine the data in large data bases as well as the literature in this area. We present the findings of a study of the newspaper coverage which focuses directly on abuse and neglect in the lives of children with disabilities. We illustrate these findings with stories that illustrate the roles and relationships of the perpetrators of abuse and neglect in the lives of children with disabilities. We conclude this chapter with a set of recommendations for researchers and practitioners.
It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. (Frederick Douglass, American Author, 1817–1895)
