Abstract
This chapter reports the project outcomes of case study 2 and analyzes the factors which contributed and hindered the program effectiveness. This case study of workplace English training program in company Y has been effective in improving job performance by reducing the number of mistakes caused by miscommunication. The training material has been particularly helpful to the training participants with those templates directly transferred to the job context. Interviewed training participants have also achieved career advancement, evidenced by increased salaries. The effectiveness of case study 2 was reduced by an overly large class size and unfavorable class time arrangement. The employees’ heavy workloads also reduced the program effectiveness. Nevertheless, this case study has been supported with favorable HR policies, which has helped with improving the training effectiveness. More out-of-class activities are suggested such as English discussion forums to increase the chances of English use. There are also reported changes in the corporate language which affected the English use in the job.
