Abstract

It is a cold late February day and the Cambridge sky is a steely blue. I have arranged to meet Tessa at the front of King’s College and spot her grass-green jacket from far off. That is how we arranged in a phone call the previous day how we would recognise each other: she would be wearing a green anorak and I would be in black.
