Abstract
We have tried to assemble in one volume a summary of the research and related scholarly literature that shows that in comparison to the general population, there is an overrepresentation in the juvenile justice system of youth having a disability—including developmental disabilities, learning or emotional disabilities, and/or mental health disorders. In this regard, one of the purposes of this book has been to provide mental health professionals, educational and rehabilitation professionals, court personnel and judges, legal staff, students in training, and others working with juvenile offenders with an overview of the symptoms and related characteristics of the most frequent disabilities found among youth offenders.
