The Use of Postmortem Angiography in Clinical Anatomy

Abstract

Clinical anatomy is a growing field that focuses on the development of and training in new medical strategies and techniques using postmortem specimens. It also allows for detailed studies of anatomy and training of medical professionals for a better understanding of anatomy and to be prepared for the living patient. Postmortem angiography (PMA) allows reperfusion and visualization of the vascular system so that it closely resembles the results of clinical angiography performed in living patients. In the 1990s, the PMA technique was rapidly implemented in various clinical anatomy fields. This chapter reviews the various already established applications and evaluates the potential strategies for PMA within the field of clinical anatomy.
