Abstract

A thorough comprehension of elbow pathological condition derives from deep and clear knowledge of both joint anatomy and mechanism and kinematics of subluxation and injury. Although the elbow is one of the most congruous joints, traumatic dislocation of the elbow is the second most common dislocation after the shoulder with a reported incidence about 5.0 per 100,000 person-years MRI is able to provide important information both for bone component and ligamentous structures allowing to orientate the orthopedic surgeon to the correct management of the patient. However, the use of a common language is crucial, also adopting the same classification systems, thus allowing to minimize errors due to an incorrect interpretation and to reduce the delay for intervention improving the therapeutic outcome.
