Abstract
Pelvic inflammatory disease, defined as inflammation of the upper genital tract, can cause pain and lead to long-term reproductive sequelae. Tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA, abscess of the adnexa) occurs less commonly but can progress to severe sepsis. This chapter reviews risk factors for these conditions and diagnostic and management approaches, including antibiotic regimens and interventions for TOAs.
