Vascular Anatomy of the Spinal Cord

Abstract

Only a few investigations and observations exist on the embryonic development of the spinal vessels in humans. Ontogenetic studies by His (1887) and more recently by Torr (1957a, b) and Di Chiro et al. (1973) are supplemented by detailed phylogenetic studies, especially those by Sterzi (1904). The examination of early vascularization patterns is facilitated by the apparent similarity of the embryonic development of the spinal vessels in higher vertebrates.
