Abstract
Despite the large number of empirical studies investigating students’ difficulties with statistics, there are limited studies exploring the level of understanding of statistics instructors. Even though the increase in student enrollment is substantial, very few instructors at 2-year colleges have degrees in statistics. The focus of this study was to investigate the extent of understanding of the conceptions of variation held by 2-year college mathematic instructors. A survey designed to explore their conception of variation was given to 52 instructors from 33 different California community colleges.
