Abstract

Like in other skin- or mucosal-covered organs, the penis is affected with a myriad of developmental, degenerative, metabolic, inflammatory, and neoplastic conditions. Many of these diseases do not affect the penis in an exclusive manner. This chapter, however, is restricted to the surgical pathology of the penis and as such will emphasize, after a succinct coverage of anatomical considerations and congenital anomalies, benign and malignant neoplastic processes. Tumorlike conditions exclusively affecting the penis will also be described. For the description of precancerous lesions and the subclassification of the various subtypes of penile squamous cell carcinoma, the recently published WHO classification method will be presented.
