Essentials of Anatomic Pathology

Abstract

Inflammatory dermatopathology is based on a pattern approach. The reaction pattern defines the diagnostic categories utilized in the evaluation of a given skin biopsy. Once a reaction pattern is assigned, different histologic features can allow the pathologist to assign a specific diagnosis depending on the clinical presentation. This chapter discusses the basic reaction patterns commonly encountered in dermatopathology practice.
