Abstract
Sellar region lymphoma may arise as primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) or systemic lymphoma (often non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) metastasizing to the pituitary gland. (See Metastases to the Pituitary Gland, below.)
Overall, PCNSL accounts for approximately 1 % of all intracranial neoplasms.
This entity is more common in men and can occur in immunocompromised or immunocompetent individuals. The mean age in immunocompetent patients is 60–70 years, compared with 30–40 years in immunocompromised individuals.
PCNSL develops more commonly in immunocompromised individuals, especially those with HIV/AIDS, although the incidence of this disease has declined in the past decade.
