Abstract
Mitochondria and chloroplasts. The presumption is, that the first eukaryotic cells derived from the virally-mediated fusion of two equal partners, a crenarchaeal and a prokaryotic sphero(proto)plast, one of each. The viral agent might have been the ancestor of the Acholeplasma phage (Figures 15–18). These new large cells managed to separate their genome (condensed in chromosomes) from the ribosome. Each of the partners have already incorporated and operated a cytoplasmic ribosome.
