Abstract

This commentary summarizes personal experience with anastomotic and intrahepatic strictures following both deceased donor and living donor liver transplantation. Historical notes are highlighted, as well as the evolution of the treatment of biliary strictures. We discuss the incidence, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term outcomes, as well as economic impact. The added challenges of biliary strictures in living donor transplantation are addressed, as well as in recipients of death after cardiac death grafts, and following retransplantation.
