Abstract
The controversy over what makes a celestial body a planet has been going on for decades. The chapter tells of a new wrinkle that could be just the thing to put the Moon over the top and be declared a planet in the future. This is just one of the topics in this chapter. Others explain how Earth would be a very different place if it had no Moon, why the Moon rings like a hollow sphere when a large object hits it, and why the Earth-facing side of the Moon looks so different from the far side. Another section explores large pits in the lunar surface leading to underground caverns that could shelter astronauts from meteors, radiation and other potential threats. Lunar scientists are quick to acknowledge that there is still much to learn about the Moon.
