Abstract

The contribution presents results of experimental investigations on the interaction of a two-element high-lift airfoil in disturbed flow conditions. The first part focuses on the generation and development of the well defined, three-dimensional disturbances in the empty wind tunnel test-section. The second part covers the interaction of the high-airfoil with these disturbances. In particular, time-averaged, \(C_P\)-distributions, as well as time resolving \(C_P\)-signals are considered. Phase-locked PIV measurements on the high-lift flap indicate the favorable effect of the vortices on the prevailing flow separation. This contribution discusses results of the high-lift airfoil at zero angle of attack. However, based on extended investigations, an overview on the interaction effects at higher angles of attack is given.
